Child Find Services

FDLRS Heartland Child Find Services, in coordination with the school districts, locates children who are potentially eligible for services under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and links them with needed services.

Child Find services help to promote general public awareness of programs and services available for young children who have or are at risk of developing disabilities. Service coordination for diagnostic screening, placement, training, and support is also provided.

FDLRS Heartland offers FREE Developmental Screenings for 3, 4 and 5 year-olds by appointment only. Monthly screenings are held in Arcadia, Clewiston, LaBelle, Moore Haven and Sebring and take approximately 90 minutes to complete. Vision, hearing, motor skills, concepts, speech and language are screened.
Call 1-800-316-7057 for more information or for an appointment.

Child Find staff responsibilities have modified the way requests for screening will be processed. Beginning immediately, all requests for screening should be faxed to Lake Placid @ 863-531-0425.

English and Spanish speaking staff are available to take the referrals, and will be able to schedule appointments when the referral is made. A schedule of arena screening dates have been developed for Sebring, LaBelle, Arcadia and Clewiston. We believe that these changes will allow Child Find to screen children as quickly as possible, and will expedite referrals for further evaluation when that is indicated.
